Our identity is how we see ourselves, and it plays a crucial role in our lives. It can either hold us back or build us up. “I’m terrible with directions. I have a sweet tooth. I’m bad at math.” These are examples of identities that can hold you back. When we identify with negative traits or behaviors, we are less likely to make progress in those areas. We believe that these traits are fixed, and there is nothing we can do to change them.

On the other hand✋🏻, when we identify with positive traits or behaviors, we are more likely to make progress in those areas.

These are examples of identities that can build us up. When we identify with positive traits, we believe that we can change and improve.

For example, if you want to become a writer, you can start by identifying as a writer. Then, you can build habits that reinforce that identity, such as writing every day. By doing this, you start to see yourself as a writer, and writing becomes a natural part of your daily routine.
